Champagne and Mojitos

We were taken to the beautiful Fountainbleu Hotel in South Beach, Miami, for a gala send away party. It was like old home week for many people, meeting friends they had made on previous cruises. The president of the cruise line said there were a record 400 people taking the entire 74 day voyage. Many people we spoke to said they had been on numerous world cruises, some of them well over 100 days. We are collecting strategies on how to keep our weight down and our livers healthy!
A very easy check-in process at the ship the next day and within 10 minutes of being on-board, we were sitting down to lunch with champagne. We set sail that evening for Key West. I didn’t think it would be much different from Miami, but I was in for a pleasant surprise. It is very laid-back and has numerous ‘character bars’, including The Blue Parrot. We met Chicken, the bartender, who very generously wrote out her mojito recipe for me. Yay...another drink to add to my skimpy cocktail selection.
The highlight was going to Ernest Hemingway’s home and having a very interesting guide who told us all kinds of Hemingway stories. I didn’t know he had four wives and a number of other relationships.
All is good with the Hawrishoks and we look forward to heading out to Grand Cayman this afternoon. We have a day at sea tomorrow and will arrive in Georgetown at 8:00 a.m. on Friday morning.

CHAMPAGNE WITHIN 10 MINUTES OF BOARDING...OFF TO A GOOD START.

CHICKEN AT THE BLUE PARROT SHARED HER MOJITO RECIPE WITH ME....THE SECRET IS LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS OF RUM!
